Gear and control
Play JamSesh from a MIDI keyboard, any controller or your phone, sync it with other apps and gear, and drive hardware synths.
MIDI keyboards
Plug in a MIDI keyboard and it plays the instrument you chose under Keys, or the armed instrument track. In Advanced, the MIDI button on an instrument track sets who plays it: the keys (when armed), any keyboard or one device, on a channel, with MPE for MPE keyboards. Two keyboards can play two tracks at once.
Map any control
- Press Controllers (Advanced).
- Under Learn a control, choose what to control (a fader, a loop, a pad, an effect knob…) and press Learn.
- Touch the knob, button or pad on your controller. Done.
Each mapping has a mode (Absolute, Toggle, Momentary, Relative) and can light up its button (LED). Export… and Import… share mappings. Gamepads and your computer keyboard can be mapped too.
Every effect knob has a learn button: press it and move a knob on your controller.
Hardware synths
Choose External synth (MIDI) as a track's instrument: the notes go out to your synth on its channel, with a program change and a delay correction in ms. Its sound comes back on an input track.
MIDI clock in Controllers: JamSesh can follow another device's clock, or send its clock to your gear.
Sync and network
In ⚙ under Sync & network:
- Ableton Link: keep tempo with other Link apps on your network.
- OSC control surfaces: control JamSesh from your phone or tablet with TouchOSC or similar. Many addresses work without learning; see ? then OSC addresses.
- Network MIDI (Mac, iPad): play JamSesh from a Mac or iPad over the network, or the other way round.
